JPS ROBOTICS 2554
HOME OF THE HAWKS
WELCOME!
Team 2554, the War Hawks, is John P. Stevens High School’s FIRST Robotics team. All FIRST participants seek to inspire new generations to explore the wonders of science and technology.
Every year, high school students have 6 weeks to design and build a robot that can complete the challenge and compete with teams from across the nation. Through the guidance and leadership of our captains and mentors, students are able to acquire the knowledge necessary and develop a powerful interest in STEM careers.
Our team is divided into six separate sub-teams: Mechanical, Electrical, Programming, CAD, Marketing, and Safety. Although each individual group specializes in their field, all of the sub-teams come together to create a well-functioning robot for the competition.

FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION
The FIRST Robotics Competition is a highly competitive contest in which high schools get 6 weeks to fund, design, and build robots that perform specific tasks in a field. For the JPS Warhawks, this is more than just a STEM contest; it is an experience that builds teamwork, creates friendships, teaches management skills, and gives back to the community. With our numbers rising, it is only fair to say that we are more dedicated than ever.

PAST PROJECTS
In the past, the JPS Warhawks have participated in games such as Recycle Rush, Aerial Assist, Ultimate Ascent, and many more. We have been very successful in out build and design, as well as the actual events.

JMI LEGO LEAGUE
The Warhawks, with the help of
Mrs. Blair, started the JMI
ROBOKNIGHTMARES. Twice a
week, our team members train
students in designing and building robots and other gadgets with legos. The ROBOKNIGHTMARES are extremely creative and hardworking and have placed 7th
place in robot performance at the
FIRST LEGO League competition.
Go ROBOKNIGHTMARES!
SUBTEAMS
MECHANICAL TEAM
The Mechanical Team is in charge of creating a prototype and the physical construction of the robot. They train new members to safely use power tools and handle build equipment to create a practice field to use before competition. Also, they work alongside the CAD team to design components such as drive chains, the chassis, and shooters. Students in this sub-team build the skeletal structure of the robot, and efficiently arrange the motors, electronics, and various mechanisms onto the robot.

ELECTRICAL TEAM
The Electrical team organizes and puts together the electrical board. The electrical board essentially connects the power and the programming to the motors and other parts of the robot so that it may perform all the desired functions.
PROGRAMMING TEAM
The Programming team creates and runs a program in Java that allows students to control the robot. Programming code directs the robot to carry out a specific job within the limits of its hardware but also has to take into account the limits of human ability in order to program AI for competitions. The code for the program is on GitHub. A button to the page will be provided below.

MARKETING TEAM
The Marketing team is in charge of all the behind-the-scenes work: every year they must carry out fundraisers, acquire sponsorship and grants to meet the yearly $10,000 budget needed for a successful season. They also market the team, reach out to the community, and make robotics stand out in our community.
CAD TEAM
The CAD team is in charge of digitally designing the robot with exact measurements to ensure a smooth execution. By utilizing Autodesk Inventor, students are able to assemble various extrusions, motors, and other parts. Once assembly is completed, the program allows the user to perform a drive function that demonstrates all the parts working together. Following this digital model and its matching blueprints, the mechanical team is able to recreate the robot with real metal and parts.

DELIGHT IN OUR GALLERY
For every successful team, there is an important "behind-the-scenes" process that glues everything together. Our students have worked with fantastic teachers, resourceful engineers, cooperative businesses, and friendly volunteers to become the effective group we are today. We do what we do not just because of our insatiable love of STEM, but to impact our community in a meaningful way so that it will eventually impact us. In this gallery, you will get a glimpse of who we are, what we have accomplished, what we have dealt with, and most importantly, what it means to be part of the JPS Warhawks.
